“And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.”
In Deuteronomy, we see the children of Israel come to the close of their journey through the wilderness of Sinai. In this devotional scripture, we see Moses speaking to the people to remind them of everything that God has brought them through.Their clothes did not wear out (Deuteronomy 29:5), they were fed with manna from Heaven (Deuteronomy 8:3) and so much more to show them He is the living God.As we read this verse of scripture Moses tells the people that God did these things that mankind is not to live solely by bread, or the food we eat, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. How powerful are these words in the lives of God’s children? We must cling to His living word. Jesus echoes these words from Moses when He was tempted in the wilderness.
Matthew 4:4
“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
