“Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”
In the scripture, we come to the Gospel of Matthew. It is here in the fifth chapter that we find the beatitudes of Christ as He teaches on the Mount of Olives. I want us to focus on the seventh verse where Christ teaches about mercy and its reciprocation. What is Christ telling us in the scripture? “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy”
First, Christ wants the people to understand, He wants us to understand that mercy is very important, so much so, that those who give mercy, will be given mercy. Christ describes this very idea.
“For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.”
As you and i read this scripture, we must understand that God desires us to be merciful, even as He is (Luke 6:36). As we live each day the Lord gives, let us seek after mercy:To have mercy from God, but also to extend this same level of mercy to others. In doing so, the scriptures teach that we are blessed because we will receive that same mercy and grace from the Father.
